The Chinese space station is experimenting with rice and watercress farming in microgravity conditions. It also has a silkworm breeding centre because some researches indicate they could be a good protein source in future long duration space trips.

 

Watercress has already flowered and some rice plants have reached 10cm height. Furthermore, 5 silkworms have reached the cocoon fase.

 

Once tests have finished, watercress samples will be sent back to earth but the rice experiment will continue. This is not the first experiment with space farming but it is the first one that can be remotely controlled.

CAN YOU DISTINGUISH BETWEEN A MOON AND A FRYING PAN?

One of these pictures is Europe, one of the Jupiter 4 big moons. The rest are dirty, old, damaged frying pans. Can you distinguish them? The NASA twitted the challenge in 2015 and the answer is at the end of this post.

 

Jupiter 4 big moons were discovered by Galileo in 1610. In 1989 a sounding line revealed this moon could have the minimum requirements for life: liquid water, chemical elements and an energy source.

 

The original frying pans pictures were taken by Norwegian photographer Christopher Jonassen for a project called Devour. In this image NASA intentionally replaced one of the frying pans for the moon Europe.

 

Have you already discovered which one it is? The answer is the image located at the left of the central stripe. The rest are just frying pans, but we can tell you for sure they are not Castey frying pans.

This is the prize of the Arnaud Strawberries you can savor in the Arnaud’s restaurant in New Orleans. It is made from fresh strawberries, the most expensive Oporto sauce they have been able to find in the marketplace, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and mint. If you order it, the restaurant will give you a 7 carat pink diamond, although for this price I would prefer choosing the diamond by myself.

 

The dessert used to be a little less expensive – it was worth only 2 million dollars- but strawberries price must have increased a lot lately. Or maybe the fact they have decided to change the original diamond –it was only 4.7 carat- have also influenced the price increase.
